In our employee spotlight series, Into the Lumaverse, we go behind the scenes with a team member to learn who they are, what they do, and what brightens their day. Today we’re proud to introduce CG Kennedy, Marketing Strategist at SignUpGenius.
Lumaverse employees work all over the world. Where are you based?
Queen City, baby. Charlotte, North Carolina.
What does a Marketing Strategist do?
My sisters ask me this all the time and are still confused, so I don’t know if I explain it very well!
In a nutshell: I help tell the world about SignUpGenius, and once they know about it, I help them recognize more ways online sign ups can help them mobilize people, organize events, and change the world.
On the more technical side, I’ve started working with testers and developers on our product scrum team to manage marketing projects within the sprint cycle. I also help manage our email newsletter development, work on content strategy, and create UX elements and copy that customers interact with within our application.
What is your favorite thing about sign ups?
Probably the overall ease of SignUpGenius, because that seems to be a favorite of our customers. The concept is simple: create an online sign up, invite people to participate, and then our system sends out reminders for you. Pretty much anyone can figure out how to do it. I also like how even though we strive to keep the customer experience as breezy as possible, our tool has some pretty powerful capabilities for groups of any size.
Lumaverse is a family of many solutions. How does that affect your job?
SignUpGenius partnered with other Lumaverse solutions to further empower groups and meet more specific needs, beyond just sign ups. For example, now you can add a Fundly crowdfunding campaign to any sign up and easily mobilize people to give. It’s so easy, and I am excited to see how else we can help our customers.
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
The people I work with. 100%. They truly believe in our mission to empower people to change the world by making it simple to organize groups — and they live it out every day in their tasks and interactions. They’re also really fun and encouraging to work with!
Volunteerism is a big part Lumaverse culture. What is your favorite volunteer opportunity in your community?
Before COVID, I volunteered weekly with Safe Alliance in Charlotte, an organization providing hope and healing to those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. I helped distribute supplies to the residents at their shelter, providing them with everything from diapers and baby formula to bar soap and hair products. They’re an amazing organization providing safety and resources to residents who need to get out of dangerous situations. I hope to get back to them soon!
If you could magically learn anything you wanted to in one day, what would it be and why?
The piano. I have a keyboard that I attempt to play from time to time, but I would love to actually know how to play. I love to sing and if I could just turn into Alicia Keys overnight, that would be great.
Share a memory about your company.
My first week working at SignUpGenius was the week of my 23rd birthday. I wasn’t really expecting anything, but when I showed up the morning of my birthday, my desk was decorated, there were cards, and everyone kept wishing me happy birthday! I felt so seen by people I had just met. I feel like that’s a sweet snapshot of how the people at SignUpGenius have made me feel known and cared for over the last three years, starting from the very beginning.
